Core Principles
- Useful over flashy. If it doesn't solve a real problem, it doesn't ship.
- Simple wins. Every feature you cut is one less thing that can break.
- Technology with a purpose. New tech is a tool, not the selling point. I use it only if it makes the app more useful or more fun.
- Craft matters. Details are the product.
- Ship often. Finished is better than perfect. Real users teach you more than planning does.
Why independence matters
Once a company takes venture money, the app has to chase growth — more engagement, more data. Staying independent lets an app just be a good app.
By staying small and independent, NovoBuild sidesteps this trap. An app can just be a good app. It doesn't need to become a "platform." It can do one thing exceptionally well, charge a fair price for it, and then let you get back to your life.
